February 2015 – Menton – guided visit of Palais Carnolès Museum and Citrus Garden – & lunch & concert

In the morning, we visited the Carnolès Palace, built in 1717 at the request of the Prince of Monaco, Antoine 1st Grimaldi, who wanted to create his own little Versailles.  The guide then showed us around the magnificent garden with the most important collection of citrus trees (137 specimens), which had received the French distinction of “Jardin Remarquable”. Following this we had a reception and lovely lunch at the Petit Prince restaurant just across the road.  An afternoon concert back at the Carnoles Palace completed a lovely day.
