Dear Members and Friends,
As in past years, members and friends of the American Club of the Riviera will gather around elegant luncheon tables to celebrate Thanksgiving Day. We are pleased to announce that the venue this year will be the historical Hotel Le Negresco in Nice, on the famous Promenade des Anglais.
The American Club of the Riviera will also be celebrating the 55th Anniversary of its founding. As a gesture of appreciation to our loyal members (and in recognition of the excellent health of the Club’s finances), we are pleased to contribute towards the cost of the Thanksgiving reception and lunch, but only for members and their immediate families.
We know that most of our members had not been born in 1962, but those few who were young children then (!) might wish to share over lunch some anecdotes of their lives 55 years ago.
Prices: (including tour, festive Champagne reception, complete Thanksgiving meal, and all beverages):
Subsidised €95 for members of the American Club of the Riviera and their immediate families;
€105 for members of affiliated clubs; €115 for non-members.
Attendees will be greeted with a champagne reception under the cupola of the stunning Galerie Royale, followed by a traditional feast of turkey and trimmings, as conceived by Chef Jean Denis Rieubland, who celebrates his 10th anniversary at Le Negresco this year.
Joining our members, friends and families, will be Major William Connors, Liaison Officer between the US and French Army, and his wife Sarah.
Prior to the luncheon, for those who are interested, the hotel is offering short guided tours of the hotel lobby and its famous artworks collected over the years by Madame Jeanne Augier, whose family has owned the establishment since 1957. Tours depart at 12:00 noon and 12:15 pm promptly. Limited availability. Space provided on a first come first served basis.
Hotel Le Negresco – some history:
Built in 1913 at the instigation of the son of Romanian inn-keepers, Henri Negrescu, and conceptualized by Edouard Niermans, the famous Belle Epoque architect. Le Negresco was purchased in 1957 by the father of the current owner, Madame Jeanne Augier. At 94 years old now, Madame Augier still resides in the hotel and is at the origin of the concept of Le Negresco. In 2003, the facades, roof and the grand hall known as the “Salon Royal” with its stunning glass ceiling, were entered into the “historical monuments” registry of France. Renovated in 2013 for its 100th anniversary, Le Negresco was classified “Entreprise du patrimoine vivant” in 2015.
During the guided tour, you will discover the greatest periods in the history of France through works of art from Louis XIII to the present day. The art collection takes us through five centuries of history where classic and modern art are juxtaposed.
