Dear Members and Guests,
Our October event is a visit to Apricale, voted “One of the most beautiful villages in Italy”. It is located just one hour from the center of Nice, on the road that climbs up past Dolceaqua. Apricale has a diverse demographic mix of Italians from all parts of Italy, foreigners from all parts of the world, older people and young families, with a great range in socio-economic classes. Presently there are 623 residents.
In Apricale, there is no police station and there is almost no crime, there is almost no unemployment and there is no poverty. The community spirit is strong and based on centuries of village history and traditions. What makes this village so cohesive, and so unique? Join us to learn more about the people and their way of life, while we sample some of the local specialties that have made this village so famous.
The cuisine is of the highest standing; the people here take pride in using their local, fresh produce. Village markets display the local olives, honey, herbs and spices, available for purchase.
We will gather outside Apricus Bar & Osteria, Via Roma 42 at 11h00 for coffee and brioche while American born Deborah d´Alessandro tells us about “Living in Apricale,” an insiders view of the local life and culture, the unique history – the land of the Druids and what they left us. Deborah will guide us past the Medieval Castle, other local churches and ancient frescoes followed by a walk through the olive groves.
Following the guided tour, we will enjoy a hearty Italian Lunch at the popular Ristorante Apricale da Delio. During lunch, ACR´s Governor and Event Manager, Cynthia Milani will give a talk called;
What makes the Italians so Italian, the French so French and the Americans so American? A short, lively Anthropological Perspective of the cultural differences that characterize each of these cultures, and impact our behavior.

Welcome drink with olives, fresh ricotta with herbs and other local specialties
Homemade tartina with local mushrooms or artichokes depending on availability
Tasting of 3 ravioli: rabbit ravioli; herb ravioli; homemade tagliatelle with tomato sauce and aged ricotta.
Option 1: rabbit/goat combination (house specialties!)
Option 2: Stockfish brandade of baccala’, the traditional pureed dried cod with potatoes & olive oil
Zabaglione (fresh foamy egg custard) with fresh fruit and homemade pansarole (hot crispy dough made famous by the restaurant)
Pigato white wine and Rossese red wine. Coffee, tea, sparkling & still water.
Local digestives after lunch
Price: Euros 48 for members and Euros 58 for non-members, all-inclusive.

Parking: There is free parking along the left hand side of Strade Provinciale (SP63) as you enter the village of Apricale, as well as a small parking area on the right directly below the village before the bend. Continue into via Remembranze and you will find more more parking on the right beside café near cafe Apricus, Beyond the café, the road forks to Perinaldo and there is a larger parking lot next to house number Via Roma 56.
For additional parking, follow the road around the village and take the left fork to Biardo, then follow signs indicating a very sharp left into via Cavour, towards the cemetery.
Important: Please confirm your reservation as soon as possible, but no later than Friday 4th October, unless sold out before. Previously our events have been sold out prior to the final date. Without payment your reservation cannot be confirmed. There will be no payments accepted at the door. Cancellations past 4th October are not refundable.
