A sad message from your President of the American Club of the Riviera

I regret to inform you of the death on August 7th of our Member Jean Fran├žois, marquis de Chambrun, aged 79.

Many of you will remember him, especially for his inspired speech to our July 4th celebration in 2011 at the Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat, in which he read a remarkable letter written in 1777 by his ancestor – the marquis de Lafayette while on board the ship that took him to America for the first time.

The marquis de Chambrun was a shining personification of the historic amity between the French and American people. We will miss him.

We are fortunate to have known Jean Fran├žois, and are pleased to remind you of his memorable speech (including the Lafayette letter) for your pleasure and inspiration here.
